Careers – Civil Design Engineer
Primary Duties
- Provision of technical engineering assistance to the civil engineering team and other Ionic Consulting business streams as requested during wind farm project inception, development and construction
- Desk top and site-based assessments of new development projects
- Design of site layouts and swept path analysis of transport vehicles as required including where appropriate detailed transport surveys and inspections
- Visits to sites across Ireland during pre-construction and construction phases;
- Preparation of civil engineering and site layout drawings using Civil 3D
- Design, detailing and documentation of civil and structural components of projects to Eurocodes, including but not limited to: drainage works, turbine foundations, detailed road design including floating roads, other civil infrastructure and associated structures
- Design, detailing and documentation of civil and structural components of proposed substation buildings, substation compounds and cable ducting to ESB and Building Regulations requirements
- Dealing with clients, contractors, landowners, drilling and testing companies, and occasionally statutory bodies such as Fisheries or OPW
- Carrying out design risk assessments and on-site risk assessments and safety audits;
- Review of external civil engineering design documents for third party design verifications, due diligence or owner’s engineer design review stage
Other Duties
- Assisting in the production of complete and comprehensive documentation relating to the project and infrastructure, to be compiled in the Project Health and Safety File
- Assisting in the preparation and execution of tenders and specification for all contracts required for the construction of the project
- Technical inspections of structures, formations and other civil / structural elements of a project as required. Occasional supervision at key stages of civil elements (e.g. large concrete pours)
- Assisting with site investigations, including where appropriate geotechnical risk assessments on peatland sites, organising and supervising third party site investigation including borehole drilling, geophysical testing and laboratory testing
- Assisting with geotechnical design to Eurocode 7 of turbine sub-foundations including bearing capacity and rotational stiffness calculations, strength and stability calculations for buildings, plinths, retaining structures and slopes
- Assisting the civil engineering team with project cost estimates and tendering for design services
- Preparation of construction and environmental method statements and other documentation as required to meet project planning conditions
- Any other work reasonably requested by your Line Manager

- Be able to travel throughout Ireland and possibly on occasions further afield
Education and Qualification
- Degree in civil engineering (Level 8 min)
- Hold a current driving licence
- Safe Pass Training
- A minimum of 5 years’ experience as a civil engineer, preferably with a number of years’ experience on renewable energy projects
- Design experience combined with construction experience an advantage;
- Experience of the PSDP role on projects is desirable
