Civil Engineer

PRIMARY OBJECTIVES & DUTIES

  • Provide general technical civil engineering advice and support to the PM Teams as required;
  • Coordinate, manage and lead the civil engineering interfaces between PM Teams, in-house engineering and external engineering (contractors, designers or clients);
  • Support the PM Teams by completing any required site visits at pre-construction, construction stage or handover stage;
  • Coordinate, manage and lead civil engineering site inspections as required to assist the PM Teams i.e. steel inspections, concrete pours, geotechnical stability, access roads, technical inspections, progress meetings and safety etc;
  • Coordinate, manage and lead Design Reviews of Design & Build Contractor’s design drawings and documentation;
  • Compile and review civil engineering and design comment logs;   
  • Participate on project team calls with contractors, designers and clients to provide technical support to PM Teams.

OTHER DUTIES

  • Assist in the production of complete and comprehensive documentation relating to the project and infrastructure, to be compiled in the Project Health and Safety File;
  • Assist in the preparation and execution of tenders and specification for all contracts required for the construction of the project;
  • Assist in the preparation of civil engineering cost estimates and tendering for design services;
  • Assist in the preparation of construction and environmental method statements and other documentation as required to meet project planning conditions;
  • Assist PM Teams with desk top and site based assessments of new development projects, design of site layouts and swept path analysis of transport vehicles as required including where appropriate detailed transport surveys and inspections;
  • Assist PM Teams with stakeholder management, with clients, contractors, landowners, drilling and testing companies, and occasionally statutory bodies such as Fisheries or OPW;
  • Assist PM Teams with design risk assessments, on-site risk assessments and safety audits;
  • Assist PM Teams / interface with civil engineering team to manage the design, detailing and documentation of civil and structural components of projects to satisfy Eurocodes, including but not limited to: drainage works, turbine foundations, detailed road design including floating roads, other civil infrastructure and associated structures;
  • Assist PM Teams / interface with civil engineering team to manage the design, detailing and documentation of civil and structural components of proposed substation buildings, substation compounds and cable ducting to grid connections and building regulations requirements;
  • Promote and enhance the profile and reputation of Ionic Consulting in the renewable energy market in Ireland and abroad and assisting with business development, expansion and diversification as necessary

EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Degree in Civil Engineering (Level 8 min);
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience as a civil engineer, preferably with a number of years’ experience on renewable energy projects;
  • Chartered Engineer status or working towards it is an advantage;
  • Design experience combined with construction experience in renewables is an advantage;
  • Experience of the PSDP role on projects is desirable;
  • Hold a current driving licence;
  • Safe Pass Training.
