Civil Site Engineer – Onshore Wind Farm
This role has a mandatory requirement of a minimum of 5 years’ experience as resident/site engineer for the civil works construction of Onshore Wind Farms including roads, hardstands and foundations. Candidates without this experience will not be considered for this role.
Resident Engineer Duties
- Review and understand the full scope of planning requirements required to commence construction on a wind farm project;
- Assist in the preparation and submission of necessary compliance under the wind farm planning permission;
- Become familiar with the Health and Safety requirements for the wind farm projects;
- Assist in the preparation and submission of necessary compliance under the safety regulations;
- Become familiar with the relevant forms of construction contract;
- Support the Project Manager in the management of the construction of the respective projects;
- Monitor the contractors’ and subcontractors’ safety, schedule and quality during the construction phase;
- Assist in the monitoring and coordination of all contractor design and construction activities;
- Working with Ionic electrical & civil engineering teams to manage the review of the contractor’s civil and electrical designs;
- Assist in the co-ordination of all important stages of construction work to ensure cost, quality and schedule are maintained;
- Become familiar with and update the project programme with all contractor and sub-contractor updates;
- Prepare daily, weekly and/or monthly progress reports to Client including updating the Project risk analysis;
- Preparation and submission for review and issue of project meeting minutes;
- Cary out onsite surveying, setting out and civil engineering testing;
- Assist with preparation, marking up, and review of drawings;
- Assist with preparation, review and monitoring of Risk Assessments and Method Statements for various tasks on the project;
- Liaise with Contractors, Clients, Designers, Utilities, Public Authorities, Landowners and other project stakeholders are required;
Other Duties:
- Assisting in the production of complete and comprehensive documentation relating to the project and infrastructure, to be compiled in the Project Health and Safety File;
- Technical inspections of structures, formations and other civil / structural elements of a project as required. Supervision at key stages of civil elements (e.g. large concrete pours);
- Assisting with site investigations, including where appropriate geotechnical risk assessments on peatland sites, organising and supervising third party site investigation including borehole drilling, geophysical testing and laboratory testing;
- Preparation of construction and environmental method statements and other documentation as required to meet project planning conditions;
- Assist with and carry out pre-construction surveys of transport routes to wind farm sites;
- Monitor Wind Turbine Generator (WTG) transportation, delivery, erection and commissioning;
- Witness WTG reliability run performance and analyse results;
- Collate and review WTG quality documentation during transportation, erection and commissioning;
- Inspect & snag completed WTGs following commissioning;
- Undertake WTG climbing training and be comfortable with working within WTGs at height;
- Some work will involve travel throughout Ireland and possibly on occasions further afield;
- Any other work reasonably requested by your Line Manager.

Education and qualifications
- Degree in Civil Engineering (or Energy Engineering) (Level 8 min);
- Hold a current driving licence;
- Safe Pass Training;
- Design experience combined with construction experience an advantage;
- Experience of the PSDP role on projects is desirable.
