Project Manager – Renewable Energy Development

PRIMARY OBJECTIVES & DUTIES

  • Act as project manager on multi-contract renewable energy projects in the UK and Ireland during both pre-construction, construction and handover phases of the project;
  • Support our client base and work closely with project funders in bringing development projects to Financial Close;
  • Ensure the projects are safely constructed on programme and within budget;
  • Be commercially and contractually astute so as to deliver the maximum value both to our clients and to Ionic Consulting; 
  • Represent Ionic and / or Client at any required site visits at pre-construction, construction stage or handover stage;
  • Promote and enhance the profile and reputation of Ionic Consulting in the renewable energy market in the UK, Ireland and abroad and assisting with business development as necessary.

PROJECT MANAGEMENT

  • Communicate with Project Sponsors, Financial Advisors and Legal Advisors to bring project to financial close in a non-recourse project financing environment;
  • Pro-actively manage clients to ensure that the highest standard of customer service is ensured;
  • Manage the tender and contract negotiation process for both Equipment supply and the Operations and Maintenance Agreements;
  • Manage the tender and contract negotiation process for Balance of Plant Civil and Electrical Contracts and make recommendation to the client;
  • Prepare the project delivery plan including programme and Capex/Opex budget;
  • Ensure that all works are delivered to the highest standard of safety including where relevant the discharging of statutory safety roles on behalf of the client;
  • Liaise with TSO / DSO with regard to the grid connection process;
  • Administer the construction contracts fulfilling the role of ‘Engineer’ or ‘Employer’s Representative’ as appropriate;
  • Manage specialist external consultants to support the project as required;
  • Manage design and construction interfaces between Civil, Electrical and Supplier Contracts;
  • Monitor all important stages of construction activity and ensure works are carried out to the required quality standard;
  • Manage the project programme to ensure the works are progressed on schedule and project milestones are achieved;
  • Assess interim accounts as required under the construction contracts and negotiate any variations and claims necessary;
  • Coordinate and manage the preparation of construction and environmental method statements and other documentation as required to meet project planning conditions;
  • Lead stakeholder management, with clients, contractors, landowners, drilling and testing companies, and occasionally statutory bodies such as Fisheries or OPW.

OTHER DUTIES

  • Promote and enhance the profile and reputation of Ionic Consulting;
  • Develop and maintain good relationships with key Clients;
  • Develop business contacts and opportunities for Ionic Consulting;
  • Seek opportunities to submit tenders for work in Ireland on behalf of Ionic Consulting;
  • Represent Ionic on various industry bodies and at industry events as required;
  • Work with other staff / teams in order to deliver business goals and meet customer requirements;
  • Develop and maintain good relationships with other staff / teams;
  • Support the development of other staff by engaging in internal training and mentoring;
  • Work in client facing roles and interface directly with a wide range of clients;
  • Work with other staff and management team to expand Ionic’s range of services and client base.

PERSONAL SKILLS & ATTRIBUTES

  • An interest in renewable energy and the developments in technology (in Ireland and UK);
  • Ability to develop good working relationships with colleagues, contractors and clients;
  • Able to adapt, work effectively and flexibly within a small team environment;
  • Flexibility regarding travelling to site and working alone (in Ireland and UK);
  • Strong time management, leadership, supervisory and mentoring skills;

EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Degree in an Engineering, Management or Renewables focused subject area is an advantage;
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience as a Project Manager on renewable energy projects or a closely related infrastructure sector is a requirement;
  • Chartered Engineer / Project Management Professional status or working towards it is an advantage;
  • Project Engineering experience combined with construction experience in renewables is an advantage;
  • Experience of performing the PSDP role on projects is an advantage.
